In our pressured workplaces, we too often adopt a reactive stance, treating complex

situations like problems to be fixed rather than possibilities to be explored. As a

result, we can experience discouragement, frustration, and even burnout.

Reflective practice provides an alternative way forward. Founded on a commitment to

dialogue and an ethic of collaboration, it makes space for multiple points of view,

breathing life into opportunities unforeseen in the rush to react. This half-day event

will explore variations on reflective practice through the accounts of counsellors,

therapists, and social workers currently engaged in a variety of formalized reflective

processes in their workplaces, as well as managers who have committed to supporting

staff member in participating in these activities.

There are currently six Collaborative Practice Groups operating in Ottawa. They are

a network of practitioners who use variations on reflecting team work in both group

supervision and direct service. As hosts of this half-day event, they will demonstrate

ways of reflecting on practice in a spirit of collaboration, speak of the impact this has

had on their own practice, and share ideas about generating similar collaborative

initiatives.

Participants will:

Learn about the theory and ethic of reflective practice

Hear about the impact from professionals who regularly engage in reflective

practice

Engage in facilitated reflecting processes

Establish professional links with like-minded community partners groups to

counteract isolation and burnout
